A new challenge from Oracle Red Bull Sim Racing and Hexagon could be your chance to explore the future of digital skills and engineering.
Oracle Red Bull Sim Racing, together with the German tech company Hexagon, has launched an exciting new project called the Future Skills Challenge. Their main goal is to find new, talented individuals who have the potential to succeed in the growing fields of digital technology and engineering.
This challenge isn’t just for expert gamers, it’s open to anyone interested in how gaming connects to advanced technology, including students and people already working in different fields.
Joe Soltysik, Head of Esports at Red Bull Racing and Red Bull Technology: “We are delighted to be launching this groundbreaking competition with long-standing Oracle Red Bull Racing partner Hexagon. As the engineer role in sim racing becomes increasingly complex, the line between real and virtual has never been so close. By working with Hexagon, we can create new pathways for budding engineers to build a career within esports, manufacturing and beyond. We cannot wait to see talented minds entering the Future Skills Challenge and look forward to hosting the winners at the factory.”
What’s the Challenge About?
The Future Skills Challenge will have several online tasks that focus on:
- Looking at and understanding data (data analytics)
- Using digital copies of real-world things (digital twin technology)
- Making smart choices based on technical information (technical decision-making)
These challenges are designed to be like real engineering situations. They will show how the skills you use in esports can be directly useful in advanced manufacturing and computer-based simulation.
Josh Weiss, President of Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division: “We’re proud to partner with Oracle Red Bull Sim Racing to encourage the next generation of digital engineers. There is increasing synergy between esports and engineering, and sim racing offers an authentic proving ground for several transferable skills, with drivers using data analytics and rapid decision-making, just as engineers do in F1 racing and high-performance automotive manufacturing. With the Future Skills Challenge, we’re showcasing how digital capabilities can translate directly into exciting, future-focused careers in manufacturing.”
Who is Making This Happen?
Here’s a quick look at the companies involved:
- Hexagon: A worldwide technology company that provides digital tools used in designing, making, and checking the quality of products in manufacturing.
- Oracle Red Bull Sim Racing: The part of the Red Bull Formula 1 team that focuses on virtual racing. They are also the current world champions in F1 Sim Racing.
Together, they want to show how gaming, data, and engineering are becoming more and more connected.
The Final Event: September 2025
Six top participants will be chosen to attend an in-person event at the Red Bull Sim Racing Arena in Milton Keynes this September.
At this event, they will get to:
- Practice on high-tech racing simulators.
- Take a tour of the team’s advanced facilities.
- Work with the Red Bull sim racing team.
What Can You Win?
The overall winner will receive a Fanatec sim racing package worth €4,000.
Also, there will be a live online scoreboard so everyone can see how they are doing throughout the challenge. The competition has two age groups:
- 18 years old and younger
- 19 years old and older
You can enter the competition between June 1 and June 30, 2025.
Why This is Important
Hexagon says this challenge is about more than just playing games. It’s meant to show how skills like making quick decisions and using computer models, which are often learned through gaming are already needed in engineering and manufacturing.
By taking part in challenges based on real-world situations, participants will get a feel for what it’s like to solve complex problems in fast-paced, high-performance environments.
