Esports racing fans are gearing up for an exciting season as the ESL FACEIT Group (EFG) and RENNSPORT officially announced the launch of the ESL R1 2024 championship. The online competition will kick off on May 17th, with 48 elite drivers battling it out across two championships for a coveted spot in the Esports World Cup (EWC) later this year.
“Our partnership with RENNSPORT has made ultra-realistic racing competition an accessible, sustainable extension of both motor sports and esports, and we’re excited to continue to expand pipelines for a new generation of esports athletes with ESL R1,” said Frederik Munk, VP Sports Games at ESL FACEIT Group. “By joining EWC, ESL R1 will elevate the pinnacle of the season with a bigger prize pool than ever before. It’s full speed ahead as we make the 2024 Spring Season our most ambitious yet.”
The format promises intense competition, with drivers vying for points in both a Team Championship and a Driver Championship. In the Team Championship, racers will be representing their respective outfits, with their performances contributing to their team’s overall points tally. Simultaneously, the Driver Championship will see participants rack up points on an individual basis.
