One of the most challenging and exciting racetracks in the world gets the Assetto Corsa Mod treatment, Bathurst Mount Panorama awaits.
Get ready for a real challenge with the Bathurst Mount Panorama Assetto Corsa Mod. This track, located in the South Pacific, is legendary for a reason. While you won’t have to worry about any kangaroos jumping onto the asphalt, this circuit has everything a racing fan could ask for.
At first, the track might feel difficult. You might get frustrated, then feel a sense of accomplishment, and maybe even want to give up. But stick with it! The satisfaction comes when you finally learn the best way around Bathurst. Once you do, you’ll look at your lap times and know you’ve driven your best.
The question is, how far will you push yourself? Will you risk driving close to the walls for a tiny bit more speed? Or will you crash out by braking too late?
Location and Layout:
- Located in Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia, about 2.5 hours west of Sydney.
- The circuit is 6.213 kilometers (3.861 miles) long.
- It’s technically a street circuit, as the roads are public when no racing events are held.
- There are over 40 private residences and businesses located around the circuit.
- The track can be viewed in three main sections:
- The short Pit Straight leading into Hell Corner.
- The long and steep Mountain Straight, followed by a tight, narrow section across the top of the mountain. This section includes iconic corners like Griffin’s Bend, The Cutting, Reid Park, Sulman Park, and McPhillamy Park, culminating at Brock’s Skyline.
- The long downhill section featuring Conrod Straight, the very fast Chase chicane, and finally Murray’s Corner leading back to the pit straight.
- The circuit has a total of 23 named corners.
Elevation and Grades:
- One of the most distinctive features is its dramatic elevation changes.
- There’s a 174-meter (571 feet) vertical difference between the highest and lowest points of the track.
- Some sections have incredibly steep grades, up to 1 in 6.13, making it a true “mountain” circuit.
History:
- Construction began in the mid-1930s, initially envisioned as a scenic tourist drive that could also serve as a race track.
- The first race meeting, for motorcycles, was held on April 16, 1938. The first car race followed shortly after.
- It gained prominence by hosting events like the Australian Grand Prix in its early years.
- The Bathurst 1000, a 1000-kilometer touring car race held every October, is its most famous event and a cornerstone of Australian motorsport.
- The Bathurst 12 Hour, a significant endurance race for GT cars held in February, has also gained international recognition.
- Over the years, the track has undergone safety upgrades, including the addition of concrete barriers and the Chase chicane in 1987 to slow cars on Conrod Straight.
Unique Characteristics:
- It’s a very challenging circuit that demands precision, bravery, and respect.
- Known for its mix of high-speed straights and tight, technical corners.
- The narrowness and the proximity of concrete walls in the mountain section make it particularly unforgiving.
- It’s often described as a “rollercoaster” due to its significant elevation changes.
- Despite its fame as a racing circuit, it remains a public road with a strict 60 km/h speed limit on non-race days.
