2006 Subaru Impreza WRC

The 2006 Subaru Impreza WRC was the rally car driven by Norwegian rally legend Petter Solberg during the 2006 World Rally Championship (WRC) season. Here’s some information about the car and Solberg’s performance that year:

  • The 2006 Impreza WRC was the latest evolution of Subaru’s World Rally Car, based on the road-going Impreza. It featured the “hawk eye” headlamp design, aligning with the second facelift of the production model.
  • Engine: It was powered by a 1994cc turbocharged flat-four (boxer) engine. While specific horsepower figures for the 2006 WRC car are difficult to pinpoint exactly due to FIA regulations and team-specific tuning, World Rally Cars of this era typically produced around 300 horsepower. The road-going 2006 Subaru Impreza had a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine producing around 230 hp. The WRC engines were significantly enhanced for competition.
  • Transmission: It used a six-speed semi-automatic transmission with paddle shifters for quick gear changes.
  • Drivetrain: It had a permanent shaft-driven four-wheel drive system with tuneable front and rear gear differentials, allowing for optimal traction on various rally surfaces. Active differentials were banned in 2006 due to rule changes.

The 2006 Subaru Impreza WRC, driven by Petter Solberg, was a new iteration of Subaru’s rally car designed to comply with updated FIA regulations. However, the season proved to be difficult for Solberg and the team due to handling issues with the car, despite initial optimism and a strong driver lineup.
