The world of Formula 1 has finally embraced virtual racing, joining other major motorsports in the digital arena.
At first, Formula 1 was slow to embrace online racing when other motorsports quickly adapted to virtual events. Unlike NASCAR, Formula E, and IndyCar, most F1 drivers weren’t interested in virtual racing during the early days of lockdown.
However, things have changed for the upcoming Virtual Monaco Grand Prix. The event now features an impressive lineup of current F1 drivers and popular celebrities. They’ll race on a digital version of Monaco’s famous street circuit – known for both its glamour and challenges.
The competition runs on Codemasters’ 2019 F1 Game. While there were some technical issues in earlier virtual races, the series has grown stronger. Today’s event includes three exciting parts:
- A qualifying round for professional sim racers
- A Formula 2 race featuring current real-world drivers
- The main Virtual Monaco Grand Prix
2020 Virtual Monaco Grand Prix
Race Day Schedule:
- Takes place on Sunday 24 May 2020, starting with a Formula 2 race at 16:00 GMT, an F1 Esports Pro Exhibition Race at 17:00 GMT and the main race at 18:00 GMT
- Watch on Sky Sports will broadcast the Virtual F1 Monaco Grand Prix and build up from 16H00 GMT on Sky Sports F1, Mix and Main Event.
- Live stream on the Formula 1 YouTube channel.
- Alternatively, head over to Twitch where they will also be showing live coverage of every race.
