Round 6 of the is making its next stop at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in iRacing.
The sixth round of the Champion Motorsports LMP3/GT3 Championship Series in iRacing is set to take place at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway, widely renowned as “The Racing Capital of The World.”
Constructed in the spring of 1909, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the grand vision of Carl G. Fisher and his three business associates, James Allison, Arthur Newby, and Frank Wheeler. P.T. Andrews, a distinguished civil engineer from New York who was brought on board to supervise the construction.
Initially, Andrews proposed a 3-mile outer track; however, he soon realized that such a design would leave inadequate space for grandstands due to the proximity of the straightaways to the property’s boundaries. Consequently, he recommended a 2.5-mile outer track, which turned out to be the perfect fit.
The original plan to include a road course section was eventually dropped in March 1909 after the initial grading, resulting in the 2.5-mile oval track that stands today as the Indianapolis Motor Speedway — a venue that has earned its reputation as “The Greatest Race Course In The World” and the birthplace of American racing.
In 2000, the speedway saw the addition of a state-of-the-art FIA Grade One infield road course, which incorporated sections of the original oval, including the main stretch and the southeast turn, and spanned 2.605 miles (4.192 km). The road course underwent modifications in 2008 and 2014 to better accommodate motorcycle racing and enhance the overall competition.
The CMS practice session is scheduled to start on Wednesday evening at 8:30 pm EST, offering drivers the chance to test their skills on this legendary track.
