Lionheart Speedway Series iRacing Chicagoland Report

Lionheart Speedway Series in iRacing continues as round 12 visits Chicago. Here we have the race report.

The Lionheart Speedway Series recently visited Chicago in iRacing, round 12 went down to the wire for victory, and the HyperX Chicagoland 200 was all set for a showdown.

Here we go, more fast paced action from the Lionheart Speedway Series with 134 laps in the waiting, a clean opening start by all, Graaf moves up to second, Nunez drops to 4th, and Graaf takes the lead. Plenty of 3 wide action as the cars dice for position and the ideal line, this is going to be a fast one as the cars zip by the trackside wall camera. Oster has moved up 7 positions and takes the lead.

By lap 10, the top 13 are covered by 2 seconds and the single file train starts to take effect through the field. Time to settle the nerves and get that sweet spot of pace going. Pole position starter Wood is sitting in P5, Taylor skims the wall, with the RPM dropping, contact but no issue. The car of Reiman rides up the banking and tags Mussleman, sending the car of Reiman across the grass at pace and rejoins.

Nunez and Malone continue to drive two by two on track as they battle for P5, nice driving there from the pair. Wood has got himself some good pace and works his way up to P3, Malone, Nunez and Wagner are closely locked for the P5 battle. Team simrace247 driver Nunez is not giving up to maintain station, great driving. Whilst that is going on, Graaf in P4 has edged away from them and the yellow is out on lap 32, Sanders gets into a spin after Hacker tagged the back of him, with Rigney in close proximity, a reaction incident without intent.

Whilst the yellow is out, all but Herrick come down pit road, the start of lap 37 gets the green flag and we are away again. Its getting dicey on the restart, those elbows are a little larger than usual, 3 wide, and Wagner gets a nudge into the wall and brushes it. Degroot takes the lead, Malone and Nunez are in the mix behind Oster in second, it’s a 4 car breakaway.  with Graaf joining. The battle for p6 is raging as they try to catch up to Graaf in 4th.

Graaf is pushing hard and takes a look at going up to P3, he remains station for now and continues to keep the high pace in the draft within the top 5. By lap 60, Oster and Degroot have pulled away, Nunez and Graaf are dropping back as they duel. Wood and the chasing pack are catching, its a matter of a few car lengths now. Some cars decide to make their next official pit stops by lap 67, Wood and Malone now battle for P5. The pit entry is testing the drivers as they approach at high speed, race leader Oster comes in on lap 73, DeGroot follows in on the next lap, Graaf leads. The pit stop shuffle begins as a majority of drivers enter the pits.

On lap 77, the pitstop entry has claimed its first victim, Moll, Forsythe and Hysong are caught up in it and the yellow is out. Lap 83, and its green flag racing once again. Oster punches his way back to the lead on the restart as Taylor yields.

Taylor works his way back to the front, its a battle as they switch up, Graaf up to third. the top 6 are covered by half a second, 3 wide and Degroot takes the lead. Just as the race was hotting up at the sharp end, the yellow is back out on lap 90. Mussleman gets a nudge draft from Malone sending his car into a spin, Hawkins fell victim to the incident as well as Galaz. All cars apart from 2 drivers enter the pit lane.

40 laps to go and the green flag is back out, the top 4 have made a great restart and have managed to pull out a 1 second gap in 4 laps. The chasing pack will need to work together to catch up. They are doing just that and the gap is back down, the elbows will be coming back out again soon with 30 laps to go, Graaf takes the lead. Plenty of 3 wide action going on now, it’s nearing the closing phase with 26 to go, and now the tension will start to rise.

The yellow flag is out with 24 to go, its Wagner! Coogan, Short and Hacker also got caught up in it the incident. The green flag returns with 19 to go, the gloves are off now, Taylor leads. The yellow is back out with 16 to go, Sanders and Beard are involved, green flag, 11 to go. Its a dash to the chequered flag now, who has got the tires, who has got the fuel to burn, 3 wide, yellow flag with 10 to go. Gabe Wood and Watson are involved. With 5 laps to go, the green flag is back out, sprint race! Graaf leads,Taylor second, Degroot third Nunez is in P4. Oster starts to make some moves up to second. Its the final lap who is willing to risk it, Graaf is trying everything to defend, who gets it!

Victory in the HyperX Chicagoland 200

In defensive style, Taylor Graaf has taken victory in the Lionheart Speedway Series HyperX Chicagoland 200. Speaking in HyperX victory lane ” I am just happy to get a Lionheart win, its been a long time coming” said race winner Graaf. Speaking about the race Graaf goes on to mention “I didn’t really want to lead at some points” referring to the fuel usage and how the pack could close in. Congratulations to Tyler and his victory, solid stuff.
