  2. #64 Wood: +0.037
  3. #98 Dupre: +0.045
  4. #8 Taylor: +0.057
  5. #2 Beard: +0.059

35 cars lined up for the rolling start formation of the HyperX Kentucky 200, here we go, green flag. Goodman punches the pedal to the metal and we are racing for 134 laps, he has opened a gap of 5 cars. A good start by all except for Reiman. Dupre has pushed up to P2, Showen up to 5th. These laps will be clicking off real quick as the cars come up to speed and we see the drivers asserting themselves for track position. Showen continues to move up the order and passes Wood to take P4.

15 laps in and we are starting to see groups of cars spreading out, Dupre scuffs the wall and drops to 6th. Goodman is still out front with Taylor going with him as they are edging away from Showen in P3, Taylor goes for the lead and makes it stick. Wood is mounting the pressure on Showen and searching for weak spots.

Lap 25 top 10

  2. Goodman
  3. Showen
  4. Wood
  5. Malone
  6. Hassert
  7. Dupre
  8. Beard
  9. Demaegd
  10. Wood

Team simrace247 driver Nunez is sitting in P13 and having some great racing.  Taylor has stretched out a lead of 1 second over Goodman. So far the racing has been clean as we continue under green flag racing, Showen and Wood exchange places and then switch back, Malone closes in and pinches the pocket of Wood, Wood responds and maintains his position in P4, Malone regroups and is bringing Hassert with him. Taylor is carving his way through the lapped cars with ease, his lead is now up to 2 seconds by lap 40. Godsoe gets a black flag from his pit stop, and will have to serve a penalty.

Taylor pits in at the end of lap 41 along with Malone, we start to see others come in and the order starts to shuffle up, lap after lap. Wagner tries to stretch the fuel and runs out, coasting it on fresh air to the pits.  After the pit stops, the leaderboard resumes order.

Lap 50 Top 10

  1. Taylor
  2. Goodman
  3. Showen
  4. Malone
  5. Wood
  6. Hassert
  7. Dupre
  8. Demaegd
  9. Nunez
  10. Wood

As we can see from the top 10 after the pits, we have some movers and shakers, Nunez is in the top 10 and in with a bunch of drivers all around him. Taylor is back in the groove and is leading by 2.7 seconds. Lap 55 brings out the yellow flag, it’s Chris fowler, Oster and Beard involved in an incident. Beard tags the back of Fowlers car, with Oster getting caught up in the crash. Whilst the yellow is out, cars drop into pitlane. The start of lap 60 gets us back under green flag racing again.

This has mixed everything up with the strategy, Moll is out front in the lead, Taylor is second and lines it up to take the lead. Hassert, Wood and Malone are having a great duel as Malone passes Watson for P6. Wood makes his move on Malone and gets some great speed and passes Malone and Wagner, Wood up to P4.

Lap 82 Top 10

  1. Taylor
  2. Wood
  3. Goodman
  4. Malone
  5. Hassert
  6. Wagner
  7. Moll
  8. Demaegd
  9. Showen
  10. Sanders

We are seeing some impressive drives through the pack, that yellow flag really did mix up the strategy for some as they stretch out the tires and fuel. Wood is on a charge in P2 and hunting down Taylor who is 1.5 seconds out front. Goodman in P3 has got Malone, Hassert and Wagner keeping close tabs, are they working as a drafting team for now to catch the cars ahead. Wagner has made up 26 positions so far in the race, very impressive. Moll pits in on lap 91, with Wagner set to come in on the next lap, and others through the field further down also come into the pits. Wood boxes in with 38 to go, so does Hassert and Taylor from the lead on the following lap. the shuffle up on the leaderboard is in full effect.

Yellow Flag With 32 To Go

Dupre, Hacker and Watson are involved in the incident. Dupre turns his car down into the banking, possibly not knowing that Hacker was super close, this spins Dupre around and launches his car over the top of Watson who got caught up in it. With 27 laps to go, we are back under green flag racing.  Taylor hits the afterburner switch, Goodman, Wood and Malone are fighting for second, Goodman gets rotated by Wood, wow that was a fast one, how did no one else get caught up in the multiple spinning car of Goodman, he manages to get back into the race. 19 to go and we are back to racing, Wood gets a drive through penalty for the incident with Goodman. DeGroot is on the tail of Malone and giving lots of pressure on the P2 driver, this is the stage where moves need to be done and the bravery starts to kick in.

17 To Go Yellow Flag

Whilst Degroot was riding high on the track, he closed in on Sanders lower down on the banking who was riding up the track, a situation where two drivers closed in on each other. That was an eventful few minutes where cautions bring out cautions. 12 to go and we are back racing, the hard charge is on, Malone is hounding Taylor out front, 10 to go, and its another yellow flag. 5 to go, its a sprint race under green, can Malone find that pace he had before the yellow? Its the final lap, a dramatic situation is underway, Malone is on the tailpipes of Taylor, whos going to get it?

Victory In The HyperX Kentucky 200

After a solid race and defensive run at the end, Matt Taylor withstands the pressure from Malone and wins. Speaking in HyperX victory lane, Taylor goes on to mention ” It was a tough night, the key was looking after the tires, the shade over the circuit was having an effect on the front tires. What an impressive drive from Taylor, he commanded, defended and conquered, congrats.
