rF2 at CMS: MNRL at Watkins Glen, NARS at Mid-Ohio

It was an active week at CMS for rF2 drivers, as the MNRL took the TA U2 Datsun 510s to Watkins Glen while NARS were at Mid-Ohio with the the SC2018X stock cars.

A busy night for MNRL saw two sprint races on the Short, No Chicane circuit with 15 drivers for the first race and then 17 for the second. It was Eduardo Beninca over Pedro Crulas Gomez and Gilles Lalonde for the R1 honours, with Lalonde taking the checkered in R2 followed by Beninca and then Joe Miller in third.

After three race meetings, Beninca shares the top of the championship standings with Jason Whited at 70 points while Lalonde at 65 points is holding off Zander Tallman just behind at 64. In the Seniors Division, it is Steve Carman leading with 42 points ahead of Jerry Hamilton and John Maher tied at 39 points each.

NARS continued the popular stock car series with a 48 lap race at Mid-Ohio that produced plenty of action both on and off the track as almost every driver found themselves ‘moving the grass’ at least once during the contest. It was a 1-2-3 for PRO drivers JT Tami, Eduardo Beninca and Norm Graf with Don Fryman turning his pole position for the AM class into a win, with Brendan McVeigh and Paul Ibbotson rounding out the podium.

It’s the mid-point of the SC2018X season and the championship battles are well underway. Eduardo Beninca stands on top of the PRO standing with 152 points thanks to two wins with Jason Whited, Norm Graf and Brian Hall in pursuit about 30 points back. The AM table is led by Brendan McVeigh, parlaying 4 second place standings into a winning strategy to date at 144 points, with Paul Ibbotson and Tony Boynton only 15 points back.

Coming up, both the MNRL and VWSC will be taking the 1991 Group C cars to Sebring while NARS will be hosting the third oval race of their SC2018X season at Atlanta Speedway.
