The GASS 1987 cup cars all star series got underway last night in iRacing. This great and growing league has put on a show from the green light!
The GASS 1987 cup cars all star series in iRacing ventured into its first race in the SoBo Sportsman Division. Here we have all the details of the race and current standings. Be sure to visit the GASS socials and join up in their discord.
New Brunswick’s Ryan Messer (1) took down the season opener in tonight’s SoBo Sportsman Division feature, besting a field of 15 cars. Despite a session setting issue (no heat races), 15 drivers sessioned up for the first points race in GASS history.
England’s Lewis Archer (46), a late addition to the driver roster, came into his first oval race and stomped on a 16.004, good for pole in the feature.
Lowell Jewell (27) and Dave Gargaro, Jr. (42dg) were locked in a two-car tango for third for the entire race, with Jewell’s 27 car having the advantage at the checkers. Jason Menda (45) rounded out the top 5.
The only blemish on the evening is a solitary yellow flag 4 laps in when Anthony Green‘s #86 looped in the middle of turn 4. Joe Segalla found himself facing the wrong way early on, but was able to collect his #81 Monte Carlo before the yellow had to come out.
Despite the spin, Segalla, who had qualified sixth, was able to make his way back into the top ten finishing 8th on the night.
The lights are off at South Boston, and the pits are quiet. But next Tuesday the stars and cars of the Sportsman division light up Virginia’s 4/10th mile oval for week 2 of the GASS SoBo Sportsman Division.
Championship standings after race 1:
