Prepare for an exhilarating ride and let the VTEC unleash its full potential, inviting you to embrace the FK8 experience.

In the chat of automotive history, the Honda Civic Type R inevitably finds its place in the discussions.  The hotly contested hot hatchback segment witnesses an intense rivalry among the likes of the Ford Focus, VW Golf, Renault Megane, Hyundai I20, and more. Drop by your local car street crew hangout at night, and you’ll find these impressive vehicles showcasing their might.

At the heart of this powerhouse lies the 2.0 L (1,996 cc) K20C1 turbocharged I4 engine, delivering a knockout punch of 310 horsepower for America, Africa, and Asia, and an even more commanding 320 PS for Europe and Japan, cementing its status as a force to be reckoned with.

Performance:

  • The FK8 Type R is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 306 horsepower (228 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque in the US market. The European version has slightly less power due to different emission regulations.
  • The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission with a rev-match control system, which automatically blips the throttle on downshifts to ensure smooth gear changes.
  • It’s front-wheel drive, with a limited-slip differential to improve traction and reduce torque steer.

Design:

  • The FK8 features an aggressive body kit with enhanced aerodynamics compared to a standard Civic. This includes a prominent rear wing, a hood scoop, underbody coverings, and front and side splitters.
  • The chassis has been significantly strengthened compared to the standard Civic to handle the increased performance, and the car features an adaptive suspension system that adjusts the dampers for different driving conditions.
  • The interior includes sport seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a Type R-specific instrument cluster with additional gauges and driving mode displays.

Handling:

  • The Type R is designed with track performance in mind, featuring Brembo brakes, a helical limited-slip differential, and an adaptive damper system.
  • It also has a unique dual-axis strut front suspension setup which helps to reduce torque steer and improve the vehicle’s cornering abilities.
  • It’s known for its exceptional grip, precise steering, and overall balance, making it a favorite among driving enthusiasts.

Records:

  • The FK8 has been noteworthy for setting record lap times for front-wheel-drive production cars at several racetracks around the world, including the Nürburgring Nordschleife, where it set a time of 7:43.8 in 2017.
