The Classic IndyCar Series in iRacing moves on to Road America for the next race in the series. The championship is heating up nicely.
Next up for the Classic IndyCar Series in iRacing is a trip to Road America, a high speed and technical track that lures you in to go faster, but punishes every slight mistake.
As the championship heats up and all to play for, the drivers will be thinking tactics, strategy and more. These are the times and moments where people start looking around at the competition and grabbing every piece of detail on what is going on, after all, this is racing.
CIS 2021 – Road America preview
CIS returns to the hills of Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin for the penultimate round of the 2021 season, and last road race. The 4.048 mile, fast and flowing track will host a 50 lap event with massive championship implications.
For this race, CIS will also partner with the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Coalition, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month !
The last time the series visited Road America in 2019, the race was then 5 laps longer and fuel strategy was paramount, as the total race distance was just on the edge of making 3 full fuel stints.
The trio of Ronny Nunez, Josh Chin and Matt Cooke were dominant and led all laps of the race, with Nunez ending up leading for 42 circuits and grabbing himself the win.
This season, things will be easier on drivers for fuel management, with the 2 stopper being the best strategy. All stints however will be close to max length. With long straights and fast corner, finding the correct aero balance will be one of the keys for the race.
The championship battle will be one of the attention points of the race. With Ethan Agan leading Lucas Laville by 11 points and Josh Chin by 37, everything is still to play for.
However, the drop weeks will now come into play. Agan will drop 12 points, same for Laville, whereas Chin will drop 10. With these 3 drivers being strong on road courses, we can expect a tight battle upfront including the championship contenders.
However, Agan will have to come from the back of the grid for the second race in a row, following a penalty. Road America being a relatively easy track to pass on, his charge may be easier than last time at Mid Ohio.
Along with them, Willi Schwabauer, Robert Grosser or Andrew Wood should be amongst the drivers to keep an eye on for an eventual strong result, whether a podium or a win. Qualifying upfront to avoid the expected T1 and T4 melee.
