Race of Istanbul – IRG Advance Formula 2021

A visit to the Turkish motorsport eighth wonder of the world.

The fastest racing series in the world will soon reappear in the Middle East, namely in one of the largest and most populous cities in the world, is Stanbule (perhaps known to the older reading as Constantinople).

Located on the eastern (Asian) outskirts of the Turkish capital, the Istanbul Park circuit made its Formula 1 debut in 2005, but after just two rounds, the Turkish GP organizer ran into financial trouble and was forced to sell the track.

Bernie Ecclestone was not used to such occasions as he rushed to help and for a symbolic amount of EUR 130 million he forfeited the rights to organize the Turkish Grand Prix for the next 15 years.

Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the F1 court philanthropist, Turkey dropped out of the calendar after the 2011 season and the track turned into a huge parking lot to return with a bang to the racing arenas last year.

The Turkish Intercity İstanbul Park, 5338 m long and consisting of 14 bends, is one of the first so-called Tilkedromes, where you can find many interesting places, with the iconic 4-peak left turn No. 8 at the head. As Robert Kubica himself reported years ago:

“Istanbul Park is one of the best new circuits with a great first sector that has a lot of long and smooth turns. The first turn is quite tricky because there is a blind corner there and it starts to turn before you see the inside grater.

Then you go underneath it. up the hill to turn two, which is also a very long curve – on the first lap of the race it is very fascinating because there is a lot going on there and the cars are running side by side. ”

“Halfway through the lap, you arrive at turn 8, which is four peaks at around 260 km / h. The problem is not the choice of track, but the tarmac because there are a lot of bumps there.

It is practically a corner that is taken full throttle, it may not be too much of a challenge during a race, but it is one on the first lap when the tire pressure is quite low and the car is very heavy. a tire that is subjected to very high overload and can wear a lot at this corner.

After turn 8 you go downhill and you reach turns 9 and 10, which are chicanes and suddenly you go uphill. You can keep a high speed here, but if you don’t concentrate, it’s easy to lose the exit – as Vettel did last season in the first lap when he went too wide.

Sometimes you have to change your track, especially when you are racing someone; the entry speed can also be dispensed with in order to accelerate out of the bend earlier. It’s a rather strange corner where it’s impossible to find the perfect balance, so you should always approach it with a lot of respect. ”

“The best opportunity to overtake is the last part of the lap, just before turn 12, which is a long straight and leads to a fairly winding part of the track. You can go side-to-side here, but you are always limited by traction and grip ahead.

It goes flawlessly, overtaking it is a difficult task. ” [Currently in F1 the DRS system is used, which makes overtaking at this point easier].

“Speaking of car setup, there is a trade-off between first and last sector setups. When you choose setup for the faster part of the track and you are aerodynamically good in the first sector, you are paying for the lack of mechanical grip, traction and braking stability, which is especially important. important in the last sector. ”

Years later, the RK sums up:

“Istanbul Park is a track that offers many challenges. We’ve got a couple of highs and lows, and fast and slow sections. The most famous is turn number eight, which actually has four vertices. We drive it at maximum speed, which means that the overload is high. They are around 5G for two seconds. The neck suffers a lot then, but the F1 drivers are prepared for it ”

Key turn – T8:

The bumpy surface of the 4-point fast left curve with a total angle of 180 ° is a considerable challenge and a test of the courage and skills of drivers, also verifying the balance of the car prepared earlier by the engineers.

A small mistake or a moment of hesitation may cost the least amount of replacing a set of tires, and in extreme cases, result in the intervention of medics.

A lot of interesting happened also during the last round of our sim racing games IRG Advance Formula 2021 on the Italian track Monza, the report of which can be seen at this link:

Once again Paweł Mrówka turned out to be in a class of his own, strengthening his lead in the general classification (346 points) ahead of the second Wojciech Klimek (252 points) and the third Łukasz Ladmann (162 points).

In the team competition, also without major changes – in the lead: Infinity Racing Team (376 points) ahead of DS Speed SimRacing Team (349 points) and Old Bones (270 points).

The key to success on the Turkish track, in addition to flawless fast driving, will also be the ability to take care of the tires. We’ll find out who can do this best next Sunday.

It promises to be another interesting spectacle – we wish all participants of our virtual series that the concentration behind the wheel and tires would last as long as possible, and we invite fans to watch live coverage on the MotoGamesTv channel at 21:00:
