Coming up is a Formula 5000 event at Silverstone that will test great racers to the limits. If you are looking for easy racing full of assists and hand me outs, then look away.
CMH prides itself on racing challenging cars that test the driver’s skills and racing ethos.
About the event itself
“The twelfth round of CMH’s Formula 5000 European Championship heads to Silverstone for the second time. After Briton Joe Gillett won the Vanwall Trophy back in May, there’s no clear favorite for the Silverstone Grand Prix, the past five races were won by three different drivers!
In the championship, with three races to go, Pascal Mikula of Germany leads Joe Gillett by only five points, so, at this point in the season, the gloves are off. Thirty laps at Silverstone Circuit wait for the drivers on August 22nd, so tune in to find out who will take the win there.”
About Formula 5000
“Formula 5000 was a class of open-wheel race car most popular in the early 1970s. The successor of the SCCA Formula A and Formula B series, F5000 was seen as the cheaper alternative to Formula One, as F5000 cars used 5.0-liter, production-based engines compared to the purpose-built machines seen in F1.
However, that doesn’t make them less tricky to drive. These engines still produced up to 500 bhp, so patience is a driver’s best friend when handling these beasts.
The 1972 European Formula 5000 Championship was won by Dutchman Gijs van Lennep, who drove a Surtees TS11 and McLaren M18 back then.”
