Sim Racing is so much more than just a video game. Its participants love motorsport and proof is here of the respect shown to Hannu Mikkola in Dirt Rally 2.0.
Starting off with a history of Hannu Mikkola, TMGaming gives a great introduction of the Rally Legend who passed away recently. A Rally driver well known from the famous Group B era, Hannu Mikkola is remembered by those in the sim racing community with a great Dirt Rally 2.0 video.
Hannu Mikkola drove with a series of different manufacturers during the mid-1970s but it was at Ford that he made his name in the WRC. Partnered by Arne Hertz, he helped the Blue Oval win the manufacturers’ title in 1979, but missed out on the drivers’ crown by just one point.
Helping Audi develop the then-groundbreaking Audi Quattro saw him clock up four wins across 1981 and ’82, but it was the four he clinched – along with three runner-up finishes – in ’83 that clinched the title for him, despite four retirements. The following year, one win and seven other podiums resulted in yet another runner-up finish in the points race.
