SIMRACE247 are proud to be entering a four-car team in the 2021 Classic Indycar Series on iRacing which begins this Sunday with the first round at virtual Phillip Island.
Using the iconic 2009 Indycar, the series provides a true test of drivers on road courses and ovals, tipping a hat to the tracks of that era.
For this reason, SIMRACE247 embark on a road to experience in the spotlight of a well run and promoted series. For this purpose the team will be made up of:
- Troy Dolinschek: 14-year-old South African karting champion as well as Polo Cup and Formula Ford racer in real life;
- Vladislav Zenkov: 21-year-old law student from Rostov-on-Don who has been sim racing since his early teens with vast experience on rFactor 2 in which he has won numerous titles as well as a solid career in iRacing;
- Julian Fameliaris: South African race driver found hustling big V8 in the country’s national championship and keen iRacer who will, unfortunately, miss the opening round due to real-life race commitments;
- Paul Velasco: Team principal and gentleman sim race driver since 1995 bringing up the tail end of the team and in contention for the Masters’ Cup.
Ahead of the opening round Team SIMRACE247 director Darren Buckner said: “Classic Indycar Series is a privately run series that sets lofty benchmarks and a good platform for our team to perform on.
“Our goal is to expose young talent, by supporting them to do iRacing while setting a programme for these drivers to develop within the platform’s eco-system. The team tasted victory by winning the sixth split of the 2021 iRacing Bathurst 12-Hours – Troy doing a stellar job along with Elliot Simpson and Chase Elliot.”
The aim is do well in CIS this year, top ten finishes to start with will be a big achievement against a very impressive line-up of fast and experienced drivers. In the end we are in it to win it, as our goals are to be in the top splits one day with drivers and the team. Meanwhile CIS is as good as top split for the (Legacy) Indycar Dallara.
To all the teams and drivers, all the best and a big shout out to Robert Grosser for running this series for the seventh year. It sets the benchmark of professionalism. We hope to add value to your hard work and provide the exposure and attention this project deserves.”
