Flashback 1998: Eagle at Monza in Grand Prix Legends

Grand Prix Legends in the Big Daddy of early racing simulations, setting the benchmark over two decades ago in terms of physics and immersive racing.

Released by Papyrus the sim depicted the 1967 Formula 1 season and gave us one of the first virtual Nordschleife, as well as historic venues such as Monza, Monaco, Spa-Francorchamps, Kyalami among the 11 vanilla tracks released with a full grid of 1967 F1 cars – the last without wings – with decidedly different physics and driving characteristics.

It set the benchmark that eventually spawned a huge community at the time with GPL Rank providing a well-supported leaderboard of lap times. The title along with the Nascar games by Papyrus thereafter set the foundation for iRacing as we know it today.
