Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown revealed

Nine years on from the launch of Test Drive unlimited 2, NACON have officially unveiled it’s successor – Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown.

Those familiar to the series will be aware that the name “Solar Crown” is a reference to the final competition in the previous title. The  upcoming Test Drive game will reuse the Solar Crown championship’s concept and, in doing so, enable the play “freedom to progress through the game however they want”.

The game is being developed by KT Racing who has in recent years been working on the official WRC titles. In the reveal video, KT Racing’s director Alain Jarniou made note of how he wants to create a title where everything you can see in the map is accessible by the player. Here’s hoping for some of KT’s WRC experience to be brought over to Test Drive. WRC 8, of course, features many varying surface types and dynamic weather which hopefully will be implemented into the TDU3 title.

Solar Crown will feature a massive 1:1, open-world map that the player can explore in its entirety. The developers have also noted that similar to TDU2, the game will feature character customisation including clothes and accessories.

NACON clearly understands the passion players have over the Test Drive Unlimited series, so much so in fact that the new title will keep much of what made the first two titles great but at the same time will modernise the gameplay and game modes to stay up to date with current trends.

Unfortunately, no gameplay footage has yet been released, neither have NACON said which platforms the game will release on.  NACON and KT Racing are keeping things under wraps to release as high a quality driving title as possible and will be listening to the series’ fanbase for any ideas that could be implemented.

It is unclear when Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is expected to be launched but an announcement will be made in due course.
