It’s a big day for the iRacing service as they host their version of the Virtual Le Mans 24 Hours, attracting thousands of teams and drivers on the platform including simRACE247’s very own team.

The team will tackle the Le Mans 24 Hours for the first time, managed by Sam Tomlinson and led by drivers Maxim Bunevich and Elliot Simpson, and also includes Troy Dolinscheck, Kewyn Snyman, Chase Herholdt and Vladislav Zenkov.

The team first contemplated entering the Porsche 919 LMP1 but decided to focus on the less complicated Ferrari 488 GTE which will do battle in this website’s colours.

Speaking ahead of the biggest Virtual Le Mans 24 Hours ever on iRacing – and anywhere for that matter – team captain Simpson said, “Team practice has gone swimmingly, all faces showed and setup work ensued. We used a Pure driving school setup as a baseline and moved from there.

“All members of the team made inputs, allowing us to have a car that fitted all of our driving styles. While it’s not going to break any lap records, the Ferrari GTE is stable and reliable in both high and low-speed corners allowing the drivers to have confidence as tire wear takes effect.

“Our goal is to have a strong start and keep it on the grey stuff and out of trouble. Little can be done about the pesky, overconfident LMP1s but we have to hope and pray they keep their distance. I have full confidence in the team and their abilities to keep everything moving forward throughout the Twenty Four Hours.

“If things go awry I want the team to be positive and supportive. The best way to have fun no matter what is to have each other’s backs and maintain positivity despite mistakes and mishaps. There’s no better place to test the teams strong and commitment than during a 24h event,” concluded Simpson.

Ahead of the second big endurance project undertaken by the team formed earlier this year, team principal Paul Velasco said, “Big race for our guys and being a 24- Hours race its about consistency as opposed to outright pace, and of course staying out of trouble.

“We have a solid team to tackle this great event, which is another step in our learning curve as a new team, but evidence is we are far better prepped for Le Mans than we were for Nurby some months ago. Anything can happen and we should be there when it does.”
