Renault Sport Academy Driver Christian Lundgaard will make his BP Supercars All Stars Eseries debut this week as he is granted a wildcard entry with the Castrol and BP-backed Kelly Racing team.
The 18-year-old Danish talent will partner team owner Rick Kelly and a familiar face in Andre Heimgartner in the virtual V8 supercars squad for this Wednesday’s round at the Michigan Speedway and a to be confirmed second circuit.
Christian was joined by Kiwi Heimgartner earlier in the year in Renault DP World F1 Team colours for round two of the Formula 1 Virtual Grand Prix series – the Virtual Vietnam Grand Prix – held at the Melbourne Street Circuit on Codemasters’ F1 2019 game.
Christian ended on the podium that day having had his pole position cruelly taken away after a penalty glitch in the game, while Heimgartner finished outside the points after thrilling battles with current Formula 1 drivers and other celebrities.
Now, Christian’s simulator focus switches from ultra-high downforce Formula 1 machinery to the more burly and full-grunted V8 Supercars on the iRacing computer game.
For this week’s Supercars round, Christian will use a simulator at Renault DP World F1 Team’s Enstone chassis base, which reopened from the FIA Shutdown on 1 June.
Simulator training is the perfect preparation for Christian who is gearing up for his maiden season in the FIA Formula 2 Championship with ART Grand Prix, which is set to begin in Austria in July on the Formula 1 support programme.
His virtual car will be fully kitted in Castrol, BP and Renault DP World F1 Team colours for the six races, which begins at 10:00 BST on Wednesday 3 June.
