A Quick Look at the Type 2’s Past
The Volkswagen Type 2, also known as the Kombi or Camper, is easily recognized by its unique front windshield that looks like it’s split in two.
It was made from 1949 to 1968. The idea for the Type 2 came from Ben Pon, a businessman from the Netherlands who brought Volkswagen cars into his country.
Back in 1947, he drew a simple plan for a van that could carry 690 kilograms (around 1,520 pounds) of goods, with the driver sitting up front. This idea became the Type 2. The very first one started being made on November 12, 1949. Therefore, this vehicle has a significant history.
